hello ward 5!
In 2021, Raj Dhaliwal promised Ward 5 real results. As your city councillor, he has delivered. Over four years, he spearheaded 100+ projects to make streets safer, upgrade recreation facilities, expand transit options, and bring meaningful improvements for families across the northeast. Raj's commitment to transparency is unmatched, with every vote, every project, every win shared with residents along the way.
Raj Dhaliwal is a dedicated community leader, engineer, and advocate for equitable growth in Calgary’s northeast. Growing up in the original Ward 5 community of Rundle, Raj witnessed firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with a growing and diverse city—experiences that continue to shape his approach to public service.
Before entering public office, Raj built more than a decade of experience in engineering and project management, leading complex, multi-million-dollar projects at Worley Parsons and Suncor Energy. His professional work honed his ability to manage teams, balance budgets, and deliver results—skills he now uses to make city government more efficient, transparent, and responsive.
As a proud husband and dad of two, Raj channels that dedication into volunteering. He has volunteered with the Calgary Public Library to support newcomers, served on the board of the North East Family Connections Society to strengthen family and youth programs, and helped organize meal deliveries through the Dashmesh Gurdwara & Cultural Centre during the COVID-19 pandemic. His approach to leadership is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and a belief that every Calgarian deserves a fair chance to succeed.
Elected in October 2021 as the Councillor for Ward 5, Raj represents one of Calgary’s most vibrant and fastest-growing areas. He has focused his work on community safety, local infrastructure, economic opportunity, and equitable city services. Under his leadership, Ward 5 has seen progress on key projects including securing $109 million for the Northeast Athletic Complex, delivering a $15.8 million pavement rehabilitation program, and expanding Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) funding to strengthen frontline community programs.
At City Hall, Raj has served on several boards and committees, including the Community Development Committee, Calgary Police Commission, Calgary Stampede Board, Arts Commission, and the Multisport Fieldhouse Committee. In each role, he brings a steady, solutions-focused perspective and a commitment to making Calgary a safer, fairer, and more prosperous city for all.
